Home Maintenance Guide

We are proud of the homes we build and the neighborhoods in which we build them. We strive to create long lasting value. This cannot be achieved unless you, as the homeowner, properly maintain your home and all of its components. Periodic maintenance is necessary because of normal wear and tear, the inherent characteristics of the materials used in your home, and normal service required by the mechanical systems. In addition, natural fluctuations in temperature and humidity also affect your home as time goes by. To help you protect your investment, here are some tips from our home maintenance guide.

Once we have assembled the natural and manufactured materials, the components must then interact with each other and the environment. Although quality materials and workmanship have been used in your home, this does not mean that care or maintenance is not required. A home, like a car, requires care and attention from day one. General homeowner maintenance is essential to providing a quality home which will last a lifetime.

Basic Home Care Information

In a home, very few things are maintenance-free. Preventative maintenance, with all the time and money it consumes, is still far more cost-effective than the crisis management approach of waiting until something breaks or wears down and having to scramble to have it repaired. Preventative maintenance can avoid repairs, extend the life expectancy of many components and, in some cases, reduce energy consumption.

Ideally, preventative maintenance inspections should be performed semi-annually in the spring and fall. However, some components require more or less frequent inspections. We have provided the Seasonal Checklist as a quick reference of just a few preventative maintenance items that should be performed. Records of any work performed should also be maintained.
